I don't know what just happened?

I was trying to plug in the vacuum, but suddenly there was a pop and like a tiny explosion or something (at the outlet), and my hand was covered in black ashy stuff.I can't really explain it, it happened so quickly. Anyways, I scrubbed it off, but I'm kind of scared. I don't know what just happened. I didn't get shocked or anything, did I? My mom's not home right now, but I called her and told her what happened. Did I blow a fuse or something?
